Details of the PerPubPoetry e-Book Program

First the situation from the buyer's standpoint:

The buyer shops through the lists of poetry on the Web Site (starting with www.glbpubs.com/pppoetry.html), the lists arranged in alphabetical order by author and by poetry collection title, full volumes separated from chapbooks (at least 25 pages).

The charge for chapbooks will be $3.00 and for full volumes (at least 50 pages) $6.00. If illustrations are included in significant numbers there may be an extra charge (we will be interested in your thoughts about this). If you have a cover graphic (.jpg or .gif) for your book, that would sell for $1.00. If you would like a unique cover (in color) designed for your book, there will be an extra charge to the author and it would sell for $1.00.

Credit cards are processed under secure conditions online (or insecure optionally for deficient browsers), and mailed checks are also accepted. No downloads are performed until the card is approved (we have a quick verification service) or the check has cleared. Downloads will normally be performed within one day of cleared purchase (two days on weekends).

From the author's standpoint:

Both full volume collections (at least 50 pages) and chapbooks (a minimum of 25 pages) are acceptable. No single poems unless of "epic" (at least very long, e.g. "Howl" would have been accepted) proportions.

Summaries by the authors of the submissions are required. Since readers do not have access to the selections, the summaries are very important to attract interest. A few short poems may be sufficient, and you may wish to indicate what the tone and format of the work involves. Please limit the summaries to about 100 words.

The collection must be named and organized as a book, with a title page, copyright page, acknowledgments if desired, pagination, etc. and in a computer file suitable for Windows computer handling. If illustrations are to be included, they must be made available as either .jpg or .gif images at 72 dpi resolution in sizes no larger than 5" x 8" and be clearly labeled as to placement and positioning. Please bear in mind that not all readers will have color printers, so your illustrations should be acceptable in black&white as well. Please do not send "simultaneous submissions" (multiple copies to more than one publisher).

Text in WordPerfect/Windows will not need further processing. Word files will generally be acceptable but there may be problems in formatting that must be solved before acceptance. Files must be able to be manipulated in either of these two programs.

The best presentation of your work for download will probably be in PDF format (our standard), since spacing, line lengths, fonts, and formatting are preserved. Adobe Acrobat Reader, necessary for reading and printing out PDF files, is available for downloading without charge from Adobe. The file cannot be saved to disk via Acrobat Reader. We are also able to make the work available as Word Perfect files and as Word files if there is interest. These computer processes are performed by PPP at no cost to the author. You will be asked to proofread these files before they are put up.

Royalty payments are made to authors once a month (about the 15th) to include purchases from the previous month or portion that your submission is up. The royalty payments are 50% of received payments for work purchased.

Copyrights are the responsibility of the author, as is enforcement of copyrights. It must be recognized that some violation of copyright is not unlikely from reader's copying. If PPP is requested to design a cover for a submission, the copyright for that cover resides with PPP/artist who performed the service.

We are assuming considerable expense and need for expansion of facilities for this service, and so cannot make it totally free. There is a one-time charge of $100 for each chapbook and $150 for each larger volume, non-returnable after processing has begun. A signed contract is required for each submission which includes spelling out of all details of the procedure. It is our goal to be able to put all submissions up, available online, within one month of receipt of all components. Some details, such as a new cover or a few additional illustrations, can be added subsequently without problems.

We will promote the PPP site as much as practicable, but also hope the authors will try to popularize the site (it is in their own interests to do so, of course).

We ask that you check over your portion of the site when notified it is up and inform us if errors or bad links are found. We will do everything possible to keep the site error-free, but would appreciate your help.

Although the owner of the site is GLB Publishers, specializing in gay, lesbian, and bisexual poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, the PPPoetry site is not genre-specific. Obvious pornography will not be accepted (because it is illegal, after all) and other subjects such as bestiality and sexual or gratuitous non-sexual violence will not be accepted. Seriously denigrating individuals or groups is not acceptable, although it is certainly not required or expected that submissions will be "politically correct" in any sense. The owner reserves the right to refuse submissions based on these and other criteria. The owner's decision is final in these regards.

For formatting details, see the next page and subsequent suggestions for use of color, etc.
